In almost the central of San Fernando Valley (the other part of LA) is Lake Balboa, another amazing park in Los Angeles. Family friendly, with wide variety of outdoor activities, BBQ, jogging, paddle boats, fishing (the fih are very small) sunbathing, biking and more.
